How often should gutters be cleared?
Once a year for most properties, typically in autumn after leaves have fallen. Properties surrounded by mature trees, or in exposed coastal spots like Southport, Ainsdale and Crosby, often benefit from a second clear in spring.
How do I know if my gutters need repairing rather than just clearing?
Signs include visible sagging between brackets, water running down the outside of the gutter rather than through it, staining on the wall below, and joints that leak even when clear. If clearing alone doesn't stop the overflow, it's a repair issue, not a blockage.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace my gutters?
If the guttering is under roughly 15 years old with only localised damage, repair is usually the more economical option. Beyond that age, or with widespread sagging and cracking, full replacement is often better value over time than repeated repairs.
Do you repair cast iron guttering, or only replace with uPVC?
We do both. Cast iron guttering, common on period properties across Ormskirk, Birkdale and inner Liverpool, is genuinely durable and often worth repairing properly rather than replacing outright. We assess it honestly rather than defaulting to replacement.
What's the difference between you and a dedicated gutter-cleaning company?
We're roofers first. A gutter-only company can clear a blockage, but if the real cause is a roofing issue — a failed flashing, incorrect pitch, or structural sag — they can't diagnose or fix it. We look at the whole picture, not just what's visible in the gutter.
