Loft & Attic Cleaning — Merseyside
The most common cause we see is debris from roof work — broken tile fragments, old mortar, dust and nails falling through gaps during a re-roof or repair and settling on the insulation below. We've already carried out several of these cleans across Merseyside, and it's a job that needs doing properly, not rushed.
We work across the whole of Merseyside — Formby, Southport, Crosby, Liverpool, Ormskirk, Maghull, Hightown, Ainsdale and Birkdale. Every job starts with a proper look at what's actually there before we quote, not a guess.

Why this happens
If your roof has been repaired or replaced — by us or another contractor, at any point in its history — there's a genuine chance material fell through gaps in the structure during the work and landed on the insulation below. It's one of the most common things we find, and almost nobody checks for it unless they know to look.
Asbestos cannot be reliably identified by sight — not by us, not by anyone. Some materials found in older lofts, including old mortar and certain boards, can visually resemble asbestos-containing material even when they aren't. If we find anything we're not certain about, we stop work in that area immediately and do not disturb it. We'll explain honestly what we've found and point you towards a licensed asbestos specialist for testing and, if needed, safe removal, before any further work continues. We do not attempt to handle, remove or work around suspected asbestos ourselves — this is standard practice, not an excuse to avoid a difficult job, and it's how it should be done.
Our process
We assess the loft before quoting — extent of debris, insulation condition, and anything that needs specialist attention.
A clear price based on what's actually there, not a guess. No pressure to proceed.
Removed by hand where needed, working carefully around joists, cables and pipework.
Bagged and disposed of properly, not just pushed aside.
Joists, rafters and floor cleared of dust and debris, ready for new insulation.
Topped up or replaced to current standards where needed, quoted as part of the same job.
Common questions
The most common cause we see is debris from roof work — broken tile fragments, old mortar, dust and nails falling through gaps during a re-roof or repair and settling on the insulation below. Pest activity, old rubbish, and simply decades of dust build-up are the other common reasons.
Removal of debris and rubbish, careful extraction of contaminated or damaged insulation, thorough vacuuming of the loft space including joists and rafters, and safe disposal of everything removed. Where insulation has been damaged, we'll quote to top it up or replace it as part of the same job.
We stop work in that area immediately and do not disturb the material. Asbestos cannot be reliably identified by sight, so if there's any doubt, we advise you honestly and point you towards a licensed asbestos specialist for testing and safe removal before any further work continues. We do not attempt to handle or remove suspected asbestos ourselves.
Yes. Fragments falling through gaps during a re-roof compress insulation locally, creating cold spots, while dust and mortar can bury and contaminate the surface. It's one of the most common things we find, and most homeowners never know to check for it.
It depends what we find. A free loft insulation survey establishes exactly what's needed before you commit to anything — sometimes it's a straightforward top-up, sometimes debris genuinely needs removing first. We'll always explain which, and why.
